SPEED ART

Porsche 917 at Speed
For the Porsche PCA Escape event I wanted to create something for my fellow Porsche friends. Just something interesting for them to take home. So I decided to paint something interesting and Porsche. Something fast.

In this post I will go through the Speed steps of painting a 917 at Speed. At the event the paint was raffled off. I hope it helped out the event with some extra money and I hope the winner enjoys it.

I took these image with my phone so unfortunately the quality isn't super clear. I found an old image of a 917 that I liked, so I just adjusted the crop and colors. I started with a sketch the image on some old leftover brown construction paper. Note my makeshift painters easel, a latter.

After getting the image sketched out, I had to figure out a way to transfer the drawing from the paper to the canvas. I needed some carbon paper, but of course I didn't have any. So... I came up with a solution. Make my own carbon paper using the carbon build up from a tailpipe on one of our cars. After checking a couple of cars I found one that had the a good amount of black soot. The Aston Martin was a big help for me.

Last look at the outline drawing. I think I'm ready to paint.

Now getting the paint down. I used acrylic paints. I will skip over all the step by step. I work pretty fast and I don't like stopping to take a photo.

Finished!

In the back set of the 74 Carrera, and ready to go to the PCA event. I think I like it best in the back seat of the 911.
